The protest was a grassroots gathering by the Boeng Kak, Borei Keila, Pur SenChey and 347 group communities to draw attention to, and to request the intervention of United States President Barack Obama and United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to their grievances against the Royal Government of Cambodia (“RGC”) concerning land conflicts affecting the Cambodian Peoples’ human rights. The objectives were to request the United States Government in using their influence to urge the RGC to recognize and respect the Peoples’ human rights and restore their lost land, their health and their freedoms. In particular, the protestors were demanding the release from Prey Sar prison of activists and community representatives Ms. Yom Bopha of Boeng Kak community, and Ms. Tim Sakmoni of Borei Keila community, who have been held for their involvement in the Boeng kak and Borei Keila land disputes.
