The Cambodian Center for Human Rights’ (“CCHR”) Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (“SOGI”) Project launches today – 9 August 2013 – a new website, the Rainbow Khmer Portal, available at http//:sogi.sithi.org. The Rainbow Khmer Portal is designed to be an important source of information for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (“LGBT”) community in Cambodia, as well as for non-governmental organizations (“NGOs”), policy makers and individuals working to promote and protect the rights of LGBT Cambodians.

CCHR calls for a return to talks on the setting up of a joint committee to investigate election irregularities and for calm during this tense post-election period
The Cambodian Center for Human Rights (“CCHR”) urges the two main political parties and the National Election Committee (“NEC”) to recommit to the setting up of a joint committee to investigate election irregularities. The joint committee should include civil society representatives and should be, at the very least, observed by the United Nations (“UN”). During this tense time, it is extremely important for party leaders to set a good example for their followers and to commit to coming together to negotiate a peaceful resolution to this political standoff.

We need women representatives for at least 30% for the fifth mandate
We, Women for All group which is composed of 25 groups of students, communities and NGOs, are very frustrated with the decline of number of elected female parliamentarians for the fifth mandate, which undermines Cambodia Millennium Development Goals (CMDGs) target 3.8 of goal 3 which determines to Increase the number of women representative to at least 30% in the parliamentary by 2015

CCHR Expresses Concern Regarding the NEC’s Method of Verifying Election Results
The Cambodian Center for Human Rights (“CCHR”) is concerned about a lack of transparency in calculating the results of the National Assembly elections held on 28 July 2013. The National Election Committee (“NEC”) organized a rechecking of the election results from 22 provinces, beginning on 3 August 2013 at NEC headquarters within the Ministry of the Interior.

CCHR welcomes the agreement by both the CNRP and the CPP to participate in a joint committee to investigate election irregularities
Cambodian democracy has come a long way since the last National Assembly elections held in 2008. Last Sunday’s polling, and the immediate run up to the vote, was marked by largely peaceful campaigning and a surge in participation of Cambodian youth. The preliminary election results indicate that many voters were not afraid to vote for change and that there is a viable political opposition in the Kingdom of Cambodia (“Cambodia”), arguably for the first time since the first democratic election held in 1993.
