On 14 March 2022, the Phnom Penh Appeal Court, which heard the case on 17 February 2022, upheld the verdict of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court which found Kak Sovannchhay guilty of incitement to cause social unrest and of insult public officials, and confirmed his sentence of eight months in prison, with three months and 15 days suspended. Kak Sovannchhay was released from prison on 10 November 2021 but placed on probation for two years afterwards during which he is required to comply with several supervisory measures announced by the Court.
