BANGKOK — The United Nations top court is expected to rule later this year on Cambodia's request to determine ownership of disputed territory on its border with Thailand. The International Court of Justice in the 1960s declared an ancient temple around the border to be Cambodia's but did not decide on land around the temple. A clear ruling on the land risks renewing tensions between the neighbors that, in recent years, has led to deadly military clashes.

Cambodia accuses EU of "interference" over election recommendation
The government of Cambodia accused the European Union Delegation of interfering in the country's internal affairs and urged it to respect the country's sovereignty and independence. "The Royal Government of Cambodia cannot accept and rejects the Delegation's Statement as a sovereign and independent State," according to a diplomatic note the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent to the EU Delegation on Thursday and posted on the Ministry's website on Friday. The reaction was made after the EU Delegation issued a statement on Wednesday, recommending Cambodia's National Election Committee (NEC) to take steps to ensure a free and fair general election on July 28. "A transparent and credible election is a major opportunity to consolidate democracy and secure Cambodia's future development," the EU said in the statement.

Hairdresser, wife found guilty for abusing Cambodian maid
KUALA LUMPUR: A hairdresser and his wife who were found guilty of abusing a Cambodian maid, have paid a total of RM4,000 in compensation to the maid in a Sessions Court here. The money was handed over by counsel K. C. Hue who acted for Tan Mong Huwai and Eng Lay Seng, to counsel Kevin Wong who was holding a watching brief for the Cambodian Embassy. The amount was paid before Sessions Court judge Rozana Ali Yusof on Thursday in the presence of the maid, Cheah Palla. On June 20, Judge Rozana sentenced Tan to a day's jail and fined RM10,000 while Eng was jailed 12 months and fined RM6,000.

Tribunal Hopes To Wrap Up Trial in Coming Months
PHNOM PENH - The UN-backed Khmer Rouge tribunal could complete its second case against aging leaders of the regime in the next two months, a spokesman for the court said Monday. WASHINGTON DC - A former Khmer Rouge commander thought to be a suspect at the UN-backed tribunal has died. Sou Met, who commanded the Khmer Rouge air force, was accused of major atrocity crimes as a ranking member of the regime. Residents in Battambang town, where he was living freely and acting as an adviser to the Ministry of Defense, say Sou Met died on June 14 and has already been cremated.

UN praises Cambodia 'success' in addressing child labor in fisheries
PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) -- Two UN agencies praised Cambodia's Fisheries Administration Thursday as an "example of success" for addressing child labour in fisheries. In a joint report, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the International Labour Organization recalled that the fisheries agency began raising awareness of child labour issues in October of 2011. National consultations to combat child labor in fisheries were held a few months later to identify "appropriate strategies and areas of action," a statement said.

Former Governor Found Guilty in Demonstration Shooting
PHNOM PENH - Svay Rieng provincial court on Tuesday convicted a former city governor in absentia for the shooting injury of three women last year, after he fired into a crowd of demonstrating factory workers.
