Call for Arsenal to Drop Links With Rubber Firm
An online petition has been launched calling on English Premier League football club Arsenal to break its ties with a Vietnamese rubber company accused of land grabbing and deforestation in Cambodia. A report by London-based Global Witness this month names Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) as overseeing on 47,370 hectares of economic land concessions in Ratanakkiri province. The company which has denied the allegations is a local partner of the popular North London football club Arsenal.

NEC Says Statement on Bloggers Not Attack on Free Speech
Despite fears that a warning to users of social media and Internet blogs will dampen free speech, the head of National Election Committee (NEC) has insisted the intention was not to limit expression a head of July national election. The NEC last week issued a statement requesting that bloggers and user to various social media “do not provide wrong information about the election (especially the date of the election), creat fear, confusion or loss of confidence in the secrecy of the vote.”

Cambodian Monk With Ties to Opposition Party Found Killed
A senior Buddhist monk with ties to a political party challenging Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen’s hold on power has been found beaten to death in what one opposition figure called a politically motivated killing. Keo Touch, 78, the chief monk of Thmang Pagoda in Svay Rieng province’s Bavet city, was found dead in his residence on Thursday night, sources said. Speaking to RFA’s Khmer Service, opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) provincial leader Riel Khemrin described the murder as “premeditated” and “politically motivated.” “Authorities found bruises on his neck and near his eyebrows,” he said.

Hun Sen Says Opposition Victory Will Bring Another Khmer Rouge

PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Free Trade Union President, Chea Muny, was summoned to appear in Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Monday. The warrant that was issued by Judge Kimroth Narin said, the court wanted to hear comments from Chea Muny concerning his demand to ban the Pine Great (Cambodia) Garments Co., Ltd from selling any of its properties. Chea Muny had made a complaint asking the court to ban the company from selling its properties such as buildings and other materials.
