    On 27 June 2014 CCHR’s master trainer conducted a training course in Vat village, Srenoy commune, Varin district, Siem Reap province. The training is focused on three offenses that often happened in their community. These offenses are “incitement, defamation and obstruction public official”.

    The protest was a grassroots gathering by the Boeng Kak, Borei Keila, Pur SenChey and 347 group

    The protest was a grassroots gathering by the Boeng Kak, Borei Keila, Pur SenChey and 347 group communities to draw attention to, and to request the intervention of United States President Barack Obama and United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to their grievances against the Royal Government of Cambodia (“RGC”) concerning land conflicts affecting the Cambodian Peoples’ human rights. The objectives were to request the United States Government in using their influence to urge the RGC to recognize and respect the Peoples’ human rights and restore their lost land, their health and their freedoms. In particular, the protestors were demanding the release from Prey Sar prison of activists and community representatives Ms. Yom Bopha of Boeng Kak community, and Ms. Tim Sakmoni of Borei Keila community, who have been held for their involvement in the Boeng kak and Borei Keila land disputes.

    - Protesters: more than 2,000, mostly from the provinces and victims of land dispute and other related issues sectors. In addition, there are some representatives of protesters of the ASEAN members including all ASEAN member states’ flags are flying - Time of Gathering: They gathered at around 7:30 in front of Korean Biz Center adjacent to Choun Nan’s statute. - Purpose: They aim to gather and then march to MoFA to submit a petition in an attempt to seek solutions of all kinds of human rights issues in Cambodia including Land dispute, Migrant Labor, ASEAN human rights declaration, Police salaries, and so on -They schedule to submit a petition to the NA at about 9:30AM - Monitoring team: there are a lot of monitoring teams from CCHR, Licadho, Adhoc, UN, local and international media, and other related NGOs - The response of the authorities: The authorities do not allow them to march and submit a petition to MoFA as the protesters planned, but the authorities allow protesters to march from Korean Biz Center to the NA and then choose their representatives to submit a petition to the NA; otherwise there will be a problem with protest leaders. - We notice that around 1 hundred of mixed forces including riot combatant forces led by PP police commander Choun Sovann. - There was no incident of violence so far, and no sign of violence since both the protest leaders and the authorities seem to understand each other; however, let’s see what will happen next.
