World Habitat Day on 05 October 2015

On the morning of 05 October 2015, CCHR’s LRP team monitored the 30th World Habitat Day Celebration march, which was organized by communities and civil society organizations. The march was attended by almost 1000 participants and took place at the park in front of the National Assembly. Five representatives from the participants were allowed to meet and give their petition to the members of the First Commission of the National Assembly who promised to bring the participant’s concerns to the attention of their superiors with a view to reaching a resolution. However, attempts to present further petitions to to other institutions such as the Ministry of Interior, Ministry if Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction and the Municipality of Phnom Penh were prevented by the authorities. Finally, an officer from Khan Chamkar Mon, Mr. Bun Sopheak, was presented with a model replica of a house by the participants, which he agreed to pass on their behalf to the Governor of Municipality of Phnom Penh, to serve as a reminder of the basic human need for housing. The celebration march concluded at approximately 11:30am without any notable clashes between participants and the authorities.

Training on Advocacy and Mental Health for WHRDs

On 17 to 19 November 2015, CCHR’s WHRDs Project in collaboration with UN Women and Transcultural Psychosocial Organization Cambodia (TPO) is organizing a three days training course on “Advocacy and Mental Health for Women Human Rights Defenders” at Ochidee Pasteur Restaurant. The training aim to educate Women Human Rights Defenders from provinces and Phnom Penh City to learn Non-violent advocacy, using social media for advocacy, security mechanism, first aid and mental health.

The Graduation Ceremony of Cloghers Phase II

CCHR’s Empowering Cloghers Project has completed the Cloghers Training phase II. The graduation ceremony was held on 30 November 2015 at Development Innovations (DI) in Phnom Penh for the event: Gathering of Netizens and Panel Discussion “Future of Digital Rights in Cambodia”. There were ten female candidates who successfully completed phase II of the training and received certificates of achievement, while three won the blog competition.
