A Cambodian activist and former monk has been sentenced to four years in prison after he was convicted on charges of “incitement,” the result of an attempt to negotiate in a land dispute between villagers and big business. Koet Saray was charged in April and human rights group Licadho said he was convicted in the Phnom Penh Capital Court on Nov. 6 morning after being forcibly defrocked as a monk by Cambodian authorities in 2021.
