The Court Report January 2013
The January Court Report describes the public announcement of additional crimes sites under investigation in Case 004 and the Supreme Court Chamber’s decision to place Ieng Thirith under judicial supervision. The report includes the appointment of the Supreme Court Judge and the new reserve judge as well as the UK’s pledge of £600,000 to the court. A summary of witnesses and civil parties who testified before the court in December is detailed. The January Court Report’s Outreach Section includes articles on the distribution of radio sets to civil parties, group visits to the court, and the Women’s Media Center Forum in Kampong Thom. Judicial updates and court decisions from the month of December are also featured in this month’s report.

Asian International Justice Initiative (AIJI) Case 002 KRT Trial Monitor Issue No. 44
This week, the Chamber continued to hear the testimony of Civil Party Meas Saran, a nurse at Borei Keila’s medical triage unit prior to the fall of Phnom Penh who lost contact with his wife during the evacuation of the city. Following the conclusion of his testimony, the Chamber heard another Civil Party, Ms. Or Ry, whose family experienced two forced evacuations, initially from Phnom Penh to her native village in Kandal Province, and then again to Battambang Province. A third Civil Party, Mr. Chau Ny, testified on Friday and gave some insight on his experience as a Khmer Krom during the DK.

CCHR report on International Human Rights Day 2012 gatherings
10 December has been internationally recognized as International Human Rights Day (“IHRD”) since the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (the “UDHR”) was adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations (the “UN”) on 10 December 1948. 2013 World Press Freedom Index: Dashed Hopes After Spring
After the “Arab springs” and other protest movements that prompted many rises and falls in last year’s index, the 2013 Reporters Without Borders World Press Freedom Index marks a return to a more usual configuration. The ranking of most countries is no longer attributable to dramatic political developments. This year’s index is a better reflection of the attitudes and intentions of governments towards media freedom in the medium or long term.
