International Human Rights Day Dec 10, 2011: "We all need rights, Decent living wages & justice!"
December 9, 2011 - December 9, 2011- More than 52,000 Cambodians - including community groups, trade unionists, land activists, students, farmers, fishermen, musicians,entertainment workers, tuktuk drivers, motorcycle drivers and NGO workers - will gather in their communities on December 10 to celebrate International Human Rights Day (IHRD) this year. These celebrations are tied together with the common theme "We All Need Rights, Decent Living Wages & Justice!" and a common symbol ‐ the blue Kramar to represent the important role of human rights defenders in Cambodia.

Statement by the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Cambodia, Professor Surya P. Subedi
“I am about to complete my sixth human rights fact-finding mission to Cambodia. The focus of this mission has been a human rights assessment of State institutions relevant to the electoral process in the Kingdom, including the laws, policies and practices applicable to elections. During my mission I also have attempted to assess any progress in the implementation of recommendations contained in my previous reports to the Human Rights Council, and I have taken the opportunity to continue to monitor and address other ongoing human rights issues in the country, such as disputes related to land, freedom of expression, and the proposed Law on Associations and Non-Governmental Organizations.

Celebration of the 63rd Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
On Saturday 10 December, there will be about 4,000 participants from senate, national assembly, government, UN officials, NGOs , unions, youth, student, indigenous communities, foreign diplomats, gathering to mark the 63rd Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (10 Dec. 1948 - 10 Dec. 2011) at Freedom Park, Phnom Penh from 6.30 am to 4.30 pm. The celebration is tied together with the common themes “Independent Judiciary and Freedom of Expression are Foundations for Social Justice and Respect for Human Rights”.

Electoral capacity gaps still remain in Cambodia, warns UN Special Rapporteur

Two fishery community members from Kep Thmey village have received summons for allegedly inciting community members against a private development project – the precise under provision under which they are summonsed is, at the time of writing, unknown. Mrs. Chan Dara and Mrs. Chan Sophanna are active community representatives of Kep Thmey village, whose residents are embroiled in a land dispute relating to a development project. The two activists were initially due to appear before prosecutors in early October 2011, but their summons dates were postponed to 8 December 2011 on the request of the two women.
