OHCHR Statement on the Case of Tout Saran
On 20 March 2009, Mr. Tout Saran was convicted by Kampong Thom Provincial Court of the illegal confinement of Ms. Tim Norn. He was sentenced to three years in prison and fined the sum of 2,500 US$. Three others, Men Vannak, Hour Sarath and Thorn Rithy, were convicted in absentia in the same case, receiving prison sentences ranging from three to five years.

The Government Should Address Rights Abuses Instead of Attacking NGOs for Reporting Them

The report on human rights in Cambodia stated that the governments human rights record remained poor and detailed a long list of human rights abuses including extrajudicial killings by security forces, abuse of detainees, arbitrary arrests, land grabbing and forced evictions, restriction on freedom of express, and corruption.
