CCHR Commends Appeal Court for Overturning Guilty Verdict for Phlong Srey Rann
he Cambodian Center for Human Rights (“CCHR”) commends the decision by the Appeal Court on 31 December 2012 to overturn the Phnom Penh Municipal Court’s 2011 guilty verdict for Phlong Srey Rann. Srey Rann, a lesbian, was accused of illegal detention and human trafficking by her girlfriend’s family and sentenced to five years in prison in November 2011 after being convicted on charges of statutory rape.

The Cambodian Center for Human Rights (“CCHR”) welcomes the decision by the Prosecutor General of the Court of Appeal – reported by The Cambodia Daily on 31 December 2012 (‘Appeal Court Takes Over Bundith Case’, p.1) – to appeal against the controversial decision by the Svay Rieng Provincial Court to drop all charges against Chhouk Bundith, the former Bavet governor, on 18 December 2012.
