Cambodia: Pillay welcomes start of second Khmer Rouge trial, calls for vigilance to ensure victims’ rights respected
GENEVA – (21 November 2011) – UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Chief Navi Pillay on Monday welcomed the opening of a landmark trial of three top Khmer Rouge leaders in the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), on charges including genocide, crimes against humanity and torture, but stressed the need for vigilance to ensure the rights of victims in cases before the tribunal are respected.

Community Forum on Human Rights and Water Resources in Battambang province
On 23 November 2011, a land community in Chak Touch-Chak Thom village, Kakoh commune, Moung Russei district will host a community forum on Human Rights and Water Resources starting at 7.30am. The forum, which will be held in Chak Touch-Chak Thom village, will include around 200 participants who will be given the platform to raise issues and ask questions to the invited guest speakers who will include members of the local authorities and individuals from the Battambang Water Resource and Meteorology Department, the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Battambang office and non-governmental organizations.
