The Cambodian Center for Human Rights
The Cambodian Center for Human Rights ("CCHR") is a leading non-aligned, independent, non-governmental organization that works to promote and protect democracy and respect for human rights – primarily civil and political rights - in Cambodia. We empower civil society to claim its rights and drive change; and through detailed research and analysis we develop innovative policy, and advocate for its implementation. The Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity ("SOGI") Project seeks to empower lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender ("LGBT") people throughout Cambodia to advocate for their rights and to improve respect for LGBT people throughout Cambodia.
The SOGI Project aims to improve respect for the rights of LGBT people in Cambodia through the following three core activities:
- Network - Facilitate the creation of an informal LGBT rights network in Cambodia of individuals, communities, human rights defenders, community-based organizations ("CBOs"), sector-based organizations ("SBOs"), non-governmental organizations ("NGOs"), private sector associations and others seeking to improve respect for LGBT rights.
- Empower – Empower LGBT networks through capacity building and the transfer of skills and knowledge, to work to improve respect for the rights of LGBT people in their communities and throughout Cambodia.
- Advocate – Improve respect for the rights of LGBT people through research and analysis of the situation of the rights of LGBT people in Cambodia and advocacy for the realization of these rights.
The SOGI Portal
The purpose of the SOGI Portal is to provide individuals and organizations working on the rights of LGBT people in Cambodia with relevant information and resources, encouraging specialism and collaboration within the community. The Portal is also intended to provide information on the situation for LGBT people in Cambodia in order to raise awareness and understanding and to mobilize action and protect and promote human rights.
