Homophobic bullying in educational institutions deprives young LGBT people of their basic human rights to safety, dignity and freedom from discrimination and violence, and has severy negative effects on their physical and mental health. Bullying as such is increasingly being recognized as a threat to peoples well-being by international organizations, and according to scientific research, most harassment is sexual- or gender-based.
