Despite tremendous change in the visibility and social acceptance LGBT people in the Unites States, LGBT older adults are usually less confident when defending their rights and often do not access the healthcare and other services procided to the elderly, because they fear discrimination or lack of sensitivity by the providers. This often leads to higher risks for social isolation and nursing home placement.
