| Summary | On 23 January 2023, the Supreme Court upheld a November 2020 decision by the Oddar Meanchey Court of First Instance to sentence Pen Nuon, the publisher of online newspaper ‘Srotob Yukvakvey News,’ to a five million riel fine for public defamation under article 305 of the Criminal Code. Nuon was also ordered to pay an 80 million riel compensation to two military officers (40 million each) he accused of grabbing land from families living in Oddar Meanchey province’s Anlong Veng district via a series of Facebook posts in 2019. |
