  • Man Attacked With Acid on Way Home From Work

    A 55-year-old man was doused with acid on Monday evening in Phnom Penh's Russei Keo district by two unknown assailants who fled on motorcycle, Russei Keo commune police chief Sun Kannareth said yesterday. Nuon Bunthoeun, who is being treated for serious burns to his back and left leg, was walking home from work at around 9 pm when the attack occurred, according to Mr Kannareth. police are now searching for suspects to arrest, Mr Kannareth said, adding that police have no leads in the case. Police could not find out if the suspects are male or female because it was to dark, he said. Chhun Sophea, program manager at the Cambodian Acid Survivor Charity, said Mr Bunthoeun, who suffered burns to half of his body, expects to be discharged today and plans to visit their center. this year the charity has recorded 25 acid attack cases, compared to 33 in 2009 Ms Sophea said. It used to mainly be female victims but now men attack men as well, she said .
