With the Commune/Sangkat Council Elections scheduled to take place on 3 June 2012 fast approaching, the National Election Committee (NEC) has recently released the official Commune Council candidate lists of the various political parties contesting the elections. The percentage of women candidates making up the candidate list from all the parties is 25.65%. While this represents an increase of 4.29 % from the 2007 elections, the Cambodian Center for Human Rights (CCHR) notes that there continues to be room for improvement in female representation, especially among the parties that currently hold the majority of Commune Council seats.
