CCHR applauds Prime Minister Hun Sen’s call to end discrimination against LGBT Cambodians
The Cambodian Center for Human Rights (“CCHR”) welcomes the remarks made by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on 11 December 2012 urging Cambodians to end discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (“LGBT”) individuals. His remarks indicate that the Royal Government of Cambodia (“RGC”) has heard and acknowledged concerns raised by civil society regarding prevalent discrimination against LGBT Cambodians in all sectors of Cambodian society. CCHR hopes that his public recognition of the issue will contribute towards increasing public acceptance of the LGBT community and decreasing discrimination.

The Defence Support Section (DSS) of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) has assigned Mr. Ang Udom as the Cambodian Co-Lawyer, and Mr. Michael G. Karnavas as the Foreign Co-Lawyer, to represent a Suspect named in the Second Introductory Submission submitted by the International Co-Prosecutor to the Office of the Co-Investigating Judges on 20 November 2008. The Second Introductory Submission is part of the Case File in Case 003.

CHRAC’s Disappointment of Mam Sonando’s Bail Rejection by Appeals Court
The Cambodian Human Rights Action Committee (CHRAC)—a coalition of 21 NGO members—is very disappointed at the recent ruling of the Appeals Court on Mr. Mam Sonando’s bail application this morning, as well as the fact that some hundreds of peaceful protestors and supporters from different parts of the provinces who gathered to show support to Mr. Mam Sonando were denied entry to the court.

THE COURT OF APPEAL SHOULD HAVE GRANTED BAIL TO MAM SONANDO
Phnom Penh, 14 December 2012 – The Cambodian Human Rights and Development Association (ADHOC) wishes to express its disappointment at the decision made today by the Court of Appeal not to release Mam Sonando – the owner of independent Beehive Radio and president of the Democrats Association – on bail. Mam Sonando was arrested in July and sentenced to 20 years in prison on charges that were widely perceived to be politically motivated. His detention has sparked international outrage and has been condemned at the highest levels. The reasons given for the denial of Mam Sonando’s bail were completely unfounded.
