Bangkok, September 12, 2012--Cambodian authorities must immediately investigate the murder of a journalist who was found with ax wounds in the trunk of his car on Tuesday, less than a week after he had exposed an alleged military connection to the illicit timber trade, the Committee to Protect Journalists said today.

Proper Investigation is needed into the case of murdered journalist
The Cambodian Center for Human Rights (CCHR) and the Southeast Asian Press Alliance(SEAPA)are deeply concerned about the case of Mr.Hang Serei Odom, a journalist from Virakchun Khmer Daily newspaper in Ratanakkiri, who was found dead inside the trunk of his car yesterday. Hang Serei Odom reported on illegal logging and had in the last four months of working with the Virakchun Khmer Daily newspaper, uncovered several cases linked to powerful, well-‐connected Cambodian elite. CCHR and SEAPA call for a thorough investigation in to this case that is closely related to press freedom and freedom of expression in Cambodia.

Press Conference with U.S. Ambassador for War Crimes Issues
