Cambodia jails activist and former monk for 'incitement'
A Cambodian activist and former monk has been sentenced to four years in prison after he was convicted on charges of “incitement,” the result of an attempt to negotiate in a land dispute between villagers and big business. Koet Saray was charged in April and human rights group Licadho said he was convicted in the Phnom Penh Capital Court on Nov. 6 morning after being forcibly defrocked as a monk by Cambodian authorities in 2021. He has also faced similar charges before.

Communities in remote areas in Cambodia request civil society groups and the government to provide renewable energy in their areas to support daily living, serve local tourism and protect against climate change. According to Dean Rizzetti, policy director of Energy Lab, the Cambodian government set a goal to meet 70% renewable energy by 2030, by doubling solar capacity. “There are so many reasons to feel that we can address the challenges of climate change. In doing so, we will do things like reducing the country’s imports of fossil fuels to create a more resilient and fairer society,” he mentioned.

Cambodia detains over 1,000 foreigners after trafficking tip-off
More than 1,000 foreigners, mostly Chinese nationals, have been detained by Cambodian authorities following a tip by South Korean media that probed complaints of its citizens being tricked and trafficked into scam compounds. One report said they were all believed to be involved with torture, while another said the numbers included Chinese and South Koreans who had been trafficked into a compound named as Mango Park in central Kampong Speu province.
