Despite Dismissal Of Case Against Kuy Residents, Land Encroachment Persists
Preah Vihear Provincial Court dismissed a legal case against four Kuy indigenous residents of M’lou Prey II commune, Chheb district in April this year, rendering it “null and void” and “not necessary” due to lack of compelling evidence. However, problems have cropped up with outsiders trying to assert authority on the land again. On February 27, Preah Vihear provincial court questioned them to hear their testimonies about the dispute with the company on the concession land which appeared to have stalled its development.

Overseas Cambodians held protests in South Korea, Japan, France, Canada and Australia on Aug. 11. Planned demonstrations in Cambodia on Aug. 18 were never held after the government deployed security forces and arrested more than 30 people. The fundraising effort appears to be aimed at harnessing some of the nationalistic sentiment sparked by CLV critics, according to Oum Sam An, a former lawmaker for the former main opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party.

Cambodian political activist’s brother arrested at Thai border crossing
The brother of a prominent overseas Cambodian activist was arrested at the Thai border as he attempted to leave the country just weeks after Senate President Hun Sen publicly threatened the activist’s family.
