Nation Rd 6A Families Party Remove Homes
More Than 20 families along National Road 6A began removing large portions of their home Friday as the deadline passed for about 70 households to male way for a road-widening project. The families in Russei Keo district’s Chroy Changva commune knocked down concrete and wooden walls, in some cases decreasing the length of their homes form 13 meters to 5 meters, as they continued to refuse compensation offers from the municipality. Three Sentenced to Life in Drug-Smuggling Case
Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Friday convicted three people, including a former police officer, of drug smuggling and possession of chemicals to produce drugs, and sentenced them to life imprisonment. Duch Not Entitled to Parole, KRT Presecturs Say
After several days of uncertainty over whether or not former S-21 prison chief Kaing Guek Eav, alias Duch, would be eligible for parole while serving the remaining 19 years of a 35-year sentence imposed on Monday, prosecutors at the Khmer Rouge tribunal insisted yesterday that this cannot happen. Duch is not entitled to parole, Deputy Co-prosecutor William Smith wrote in statement It is the co-prosecutors' position that, unlike for accused convicted for less serious offenses in national courts, the Extraordinary chambers in the Court of Cambodia agreement, law and rules exclude the possibility of parole for a convicted accused. Gov't Drafting Penal Procedures For Juveniles
Currently, Juveniles who run afoul of the law benefit from no special procedures when they are brought before Cambodia's halting, backlogged court system and prosecuted as adults. however the government this week said it was in the process of drafting procedural rules for criminal suspects under age 18 that will establish separate detention facilities, sett maximum penalties at five years in jail, allow for criminal record to be expunged in adulthood and prevent the court from bringing criminal charges suspects under 14.

After Murder, Committee Formed For Land Dispute
Battambang provincial authorities this week formed a committee in Samlot district to survey an area subject to a land dispute that is linked to an unresolved killing in April, official said. The committee of local government officials was created on Monday to find out how many people in O'Samril commune lay claim to the Disputed land as well as the size of the area and the current occupier, Sieng Sothang, deputy provincial governor said.
