    The United Nations General Assembly has endorsed supplementary principles and guidelines which apply to members of the legal professions to enable them to ensure that the organization and administration of justice conforms to international human rights standards: Basic Principles on the Independence of the Judiciary 1985, Guidelines on the Role of Prosecutors 1990 and Principles on the Role of Lawyers 1990. These Principles and Guidelines were incorporated directly or indirectly into Cambodian law in 1992 by articles 1 and 74 of the Provisions relating to the Judiciary and Criminal Law and Procedure Applicable in Cambodia during the Transitional Period (known as the “UNTAC Law”) and underpin subsequent relevant legislation
