On 30 December 2021, the Battambang Provincial Court convicted journalist Kao Piseth of incitement (art. 494 and 495 of the Criminal Code) and obstruction of the implementation of COVID-19 measures (art. 11 of the COVID-19 Law), and sentenced him to two years in prison. Kao Piseth was arrested in July 2021 after making Facebook posts that were critical of the Chinese-made COVID-19 vaccines and the government's handling of the pandemic. He also called on the CPP to step down.
